Knitted What?

Oh, as a child of the 70s I remember the Atari 2600 fondly.

They are very difficult to find after all these years. The one I had in college was donated to the UCLA Medical Center’s children’s wing. But some intrepid knitter decided that memories weren’t enough and whipped this one up. There’s a tv as well, along with 9 other very geeky yarn creations (not all knitted).

If this site doesn’t make you chuckle, nothing will.

del.icio.us and other updates

I spend a lot of time on-line.  Probably too much time.  I often come across cool patterns and references that I’d like to share with you–and keep for myself.  Since the demise of my last computer, it’s very clear to me that keeping links/bookmarks on my own machine does nothing in the event that the hard drive dies and doesn’t let any one else know what I’ve got squirreled away.

So, now I’ve got a del.icio.us page.  When I find something I want to keep track of, a pattern I want to find again, or a reference I don’t want to lose, I’ll post it there.  Drop by and see what I’ve found so far. I’ll probably make a link to it as well.

In other news, please check out the new issue of Wild Fibers Magazine. (Subscriptions here). I’ve got a dyeing article published there, but the reason why you should read this magazine is the incredible photos and layouts.  This issue is fantastic and well worth tracking down if you don’t have a subscription.  The editor loves to travel and this time she’s off with the camels in the Gobi desert and weaving in the Andes.  The pictures are well worth your time.

I’m writing from my new computer, so feel free to click on the Google ads on the page to help pay for it ;-) .

Tomorrow I’ll have pictures from another project I completed (my knitting machine sweater), and I’ll add some more pictures in my WIP album.

Aarrrrg!

I need your help.  What would you put on this t-shirt?

‘Sorry I don’t have more energy to write more, but I was at a municipal meeting until 11:30 last night and was at the yarn store all day today.

Stumble Upon

When my brain is too fried to actually knit I usually sit at my laptop on the couch and Stumble.  Stumble is a nifty little plug-in that works with both Firefox and IE (and both Macs and PCs).  You sign up and install the plug-in so you can "Stumble about" the World Wide Web.  The really cool thing is that you can choose your favorite topics ranging from knitting/crocheting to daytrading to skydiving to robotics.

By clicking on a button you wander around the Web and rate the sites you visit, even writing reviews if you like. You can recommend sites and share them, too.

Many of the knitting sites are yarn stores, which is interesting, but not all that exciting or new.  I really love it when I run into something like a Lego Knitting Machine that really works.  When you visit the site make sure you click on the Quicktime movie of the machine working as well as the gallery of images.  I really wish my kids would use their Legos to make me one of these!

More books tomorrow!

Wow, this is big!

This is giant knitting.  It’s not just throw rug size; it’s carpet-sized.  My guess is that the gauge is six stitches per FOOT.

Christien Meindertma is the knitter, having yarn spun from individual sheep (much like us mundane spinners do all the time), then knitting it into award-winning items (many of them "normal" size).  Her site, FLOCKS, has many pictures of her completed items.  Click on the flock of sheep for more pictures of the cabled carpet, including one of her knitting on 12 foot long needles.
